A CCRC aligns its vision and strategic technology goals

Challenge

A private, not-for-profit three-campus Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) sought to foster continued education, excellent hospitality, community engagement, and resident health and wellness. Anticipating shifting resident expectations and continued industry competition, the CCRC understood that technology would play a key role in their future success. With the goal of establishing an innovative, sustainable, and efficient IT environment, the CCRC reached out to BerryDunn’s healthcare consultants for guidance on a strategic technology plan for the not-for-profit.

Solution

Working with staff and residents to understand the current technology environment and to pinpoint improvement opportunities, BerryDunn’s healthcare IT consultants:

  • Reviewed existing technology documentation; policies and procedures; frameworks; and other relevant information
  • Developed staff, resident, prospective resident, and family questionnaires in advance of on-site work sessions
  • Facilitated on-site work sessions and resident focus groups to understand the current technology, strengths, challenges, and opportunities for improvement
  • Conducted follow-up work sessions to prioritize and plan for key strategic projects

Outcomes

BerryDunn produced a strategic technology plan that aligned the vision and overall strategic goals of the CCRC. The plan prioritized each strategic initiative and provided a structured, repeatable approach to undertaking future technology initiatives.

The CCRC was able to:

  • Streamline technology use and optimize use of existing systems
  • Identify opportunities to implement new technology and formalize the piloting process
  • Support continued education, community engagement, and resident health and wellbeing
