Business process mapping for a community services board looking for a better approach to helping those in need

Client Decription:

Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board

Challenge:

Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board in Fairfax, Virginia, is a highly regulated public agency that plans, organizes, and provides services for people in the community who have mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or developmental disabilities. The CSB has grown significantly over the past 10 years, with multiple regulatory changes and has had two different electronic health record systems within that time period. The CSB wanted to document and understand how their current business processes operate across the 21 service areas they provide and to discover where their EHR interacted with these processes. They initiated a business process mapping project to determine opportunities for standardization and efficiency.

Approach:

To identify areas of improved efficiency for the CSB, BerryDunn’s team provided objective guidance as they worked with stakeholders across the organization to create a map and foundational understanding of CSB’s current processes.

Outcomes:

This work has set the stage for a “to-be” business process environment based on the opportunities identified, and will create efficiencies for the organization in the future.

  • Created 258 business process maps
  • Developed tangible recommendations to implement right away
  • Identified the need to create consistency and standardization in their EHR documentation and polices
  • Discovered efficiency in their workflows
