State alcoholic beverage control board gains a better understanding of modern
multi-tiered
control

Client Description:

State of Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board

Challenge:

After identifying several issues with their current IT systems — limited product and IT integration, inflexible processes, and highly customized systems — the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (AABC) sought the services of an outside consultant to plan for IT systems that align with their mission to control alcoholic beverages through distribution, licensing, and enforcement.

Approach:

To guide AABC toward a new, updated, and more efficient system, BerryDunn provided retail, wholesale, POS, and licensing subject matter expertise, drawing on 25+ years of experience consulting with control jurisdictions across the country. Working collaboratively with the AABC staff, the BerryDunn team applied their extensive experience to accomplish the below project milestones:

  • Documented and mapped current business processes
  • Developed business and technical requirements
  • Developed and analyzed a Request for Information (RFI)
  • Recommended strategies for business process reengineering
  • Drafted a new procedures manual
  • Created a systems implementation plan
  • Wrote and issued a Request for Proposals (RFP)

Outcomes:

AABC benefits from a better understanding of their current and future business process needs, as well as their future software and hardware requirements. A RFP was developed and issued for a more comprehensive licensing system. These planning efforts have laid the groundwork for the successful implementation of a modernized solution.
