This VC offers learners an overview of the Affordable Care Act and how it changes the American healthcare system. This overview will examine the general provisions of the new healthcare reform law (enacted in March of 2010); requirements and expected changes for insurance companies, providers, employers and individuals; new requirements and responsibilities delegated to the states (the regulation of health plans, Health Benefit Exchanges (HBEs), and healthcare benefits, and requirements for consumers); and the extensive changes the laws brings to State Medicaid Agencies (SMAs) and programs. |
