BerryDunn Announces Research Study to Improve Home Health and Hospice Patient and Family Satisfaction

08.31.23

The project is accepting 100 home health and hospice agencies for participation in the first phase of the study.

BerryDunn, lead researchers of the 2022 National Healthcare at Home Best Practices and Future Insights Study, has announced the launch of a research study and quality improvement project aimed at helping home health and hospice agencies improve patient and family satisfaction.

The Patient and Family Satisfaction Quality Improvement Project will be led by BerryDunn’s team of home health and hospice researchers and consists of a six-month educational program focused on helping agencies implement the principles of Person-Centered Care (PCC). “Research has shown that patient and family satisfaction increase when patient values and patient preferences are prioritized—a key tenet of PCC,” said Study Director, Lindsay Doak. “The goal of this project is to help skilled and non-skilled caregivers implement a model of Person-Centered Care to help improve both the experience of the patient and family members as they receive healthcare at home.”

The project will include PCC education led by care expert Dr. Mary Narayan, CAHPS data analysis, and one-on-one consulting by industry experts. The project will also include training for supervisors that addresses employee retention and engagement, as “that is such a critical component of satisfaction scores,” explained Doak.

The Patient and Family Satisfaction Quality Improvement Project and course materials are built upon evidence-based approaches that are known to have a positive impact on patient satisfaction.
