CMS’s Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) will be effective October 1, 2019, replacing Resource Utilization Groups (RUGs) for Medicare Part A fee for service payment to skilled nursing centers. Payment will be based on clinical diagnosis and patient characteristics. Administrators, finance, clinical and coding staff all need an understanding of the PDPM and ICD-10 coding for effective management and monitoring of the revenue cycle. Understanding PDPM and ICD-10 will be crucial to reimbursement and stabilizing cashflow during implementation.
In the session, BerryDunn will provide an overview of PDPM, and an update of changes in the FY 2020 SNF PPS proposed rule. We will cover the basics of ICD-10 diagnosis coding including the structure of the code and general coding guidelines. We will discuss changes to the MDS and how ICD-10 coding impacts reimbursement under PDPM.
This program is designed for non-coders and is specifically targeted for skilled nursing facilities.
